MMM Revealed! 2,000 years old!

This delicate, Roman glass bowl is almost 2,000 years old! Our antiquities collection manager estimates that it is from from 1-2 C.E.

Craftsmen made this bowl using a technique known as sagging or pressed glass. The disk of hot, malleable glass would have been laid over a mold and then details were added on top. Once it was cool, it would be removed from the mold and used as a bowl.
Did you know that the Romans made glass? Head over to the Ancient History Encyclopedia to learn more about how Romans made different types of glass.

Tune in next Monday, October 31st, when we post an extra special, spooktacular Monday Museum Mystery in celebration of Halloween!
